Receita Federal seizes weight loss medications at Friendship Bridge

The Brazilian Federal Revenue Service (Receita Federal) seized 1,011 ampoules of weight loss medications during four separate inspections at the Friendship International Bridge (Ponte da Amizade) between Brazil and Paraguay. The operation also resulted in the seizure of anabolic steroids and electronic cigarettes.

In the first incident, a Brazilian couple traveling in a Paraguayan taxi was found with 480 ampoules hidden under the vehicle's seat. In a second encounter, a man on a motorcycle taxi was caught with 196 ampoules, 15 anabolic steroids, and six electronic cigarettes concealed on his person.

A third inspection of a Brazilian-plated motorcycle uncovered 53 ampoules near the wheel and another 232 hidden inside perfume boxes under the seat. A final approach involving a motorcyclist yielded 50 ampoules and 70 anabolic steroids hidden under the seat.

While no arrests were made in the final instance due to the quantities involved, the individuals from the various incidents were referred to the Federal Police. The Federal Revenue Service stated that fiscal representations will be submitted to the Federal Public Ministry for criminal purposes.
