Recep Tayyip Erdoğan recounts actions during July 15 coup attempt

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has shared previously undisclosed details regarding his actions during the July 15 coup attempt, as featured in the finale of the documentary ‘Asirlik Gece’ aired on TRT.

Erdoğan stated that he was in Marmaris with his family when he received news of the coup attempt. Before taking action, he said he sought blessings from his family and performed two rakats of prayer, expressing a sense of submission to divine will. He noted that his family was prepared to face any potential consequences.

Following these personal moments, Erdoğan coordinated with government officials, including Binali Yıldırım and members of the Cabinet, as well as the Presidential Secretary General and high-level security officials. He issued instructions for all state institutions to act immediately to protect the constitutional order and thwart the coup attempt. The documentary also detailed his movement from Bodrum to Dalaman Airport via helicopter to manage the unfolding crisis amidst airspace uncertainty.
