Recicla‑Birziklatu launches beach clean‑up and sustainable‑living workshops in Guipúzcoa

In May 2019 a group of volunteers gathered on Hendaia beach in the Bidasoa region of Guipúzcoa, Spain, to collect litter and raise environmental awareness. The successful clean‑up spurred the creation of Recicla‑Birziklatu, a non‑profit founded by Laida Rodríguez, Gorka Alcantarilla, Rober Sernay and Julen Urtxegi. The association promotes a shift toward more sustainable habits through three main activities: community waste‑collection events, workshops that teach how to make natural cosmetics with reusable packaging, and the production of educational audiovisual content. Rodríguez, a vegetarian, emphasizes the need to reduce one’s ecological footprint, stating, “Todos generamos un impacto, así que lo que deberíamos hacer es tratar de reducir poco a poco esa huella ecológica.” Over the years the group’s initiatives have attracted dozens of participants and have become a notable presence in the Bidasoa area, encouraging small‑scale changes that collectively aim to protect the environment.
