Recife completes underground telecommunications project on Rua do Apolo
The Recife City Hall, in partnership with Porto Digital, has completed the undergrounding of telecommunications networks on Rua do Apolo. This infrastructure project is part of the R.E.D.E.S. (Recife Digital e Estratégias Sustentáveis) initiative and represents a municipal investment of over R$ 2 million.
The first stage of the project covered Rua do Apolo, Rua da Guia, and Avenida Cais do Apolo, connecting 70 properties to underground ducts. This allows telecommunications companies to move their logical networks underground and remove overhead wiring. While telecom wires are being addressed, electrical wiring from the utility provider Neoenergia remains and is expected to be removed later this week.
Mayor Victor Marques inspected the completed work, noting that the model could be expanded to other areas of the city. The second stage of the project has already begun, targeting several other streets including Domingos Martins, São Jorge, and Avenida Rio Branco, with completion for the new connections expected by September 25 and the removal of overhead wires by February 12 of next year.
