Recife Council Honors Environmental Movement on World Environment Day

On 8 June, marking World Environment Day, Recife’s City Council hosted a public meeting organized by UNACOMO, the Union of Residents’ Associations and Councils of Olinda. The session elected a new board for the organization and featured a tribute to the local environmental group defending the Mata do Engenho Uchoa. Councilwoman Cida Pedrosa (PCdoB) praised the movement’s work and highlighted challenges from climate change and global warming. Representatives from various social and environmental movements spoke, and cultural performances accompanied the discussions.

The gathering underscored the collaboration between municipal authorities and community activists in safeguarding natural heritage and promoting sustainable urban development in Recife.
