Recife expands bike-sharing system with 240 electric bicycles

The city of Recife is expanding its Bike Itaú shared mobility system by adding 240 new electric bicycles to its fleet. This initiative is a partnership between the Recife City Hall, Tembici, and Itaú Unibanco.

The new e-bikes feature pedal-assist technology, which uses an electric motor to complement the user's pedaling effort, and offer a range of up to 100 kilometers per charge, depending on usage conditions. To assist with fleet management and monitoring, the bicycles are equipped with GPS tracking.

By the end of October, the total fleet in the capital of Pernambuco will reach 1,200 bicycles, including both conventional and electric models. Users can access the service by registering through the Bike Itaú application, which allows them to locate stations and check bike availability.
