Recife honors musician Chico Science with mural and tour

The city of Recife is honoring the legacy of Brazilian musician and Manguebeat movement icon Chico Science. To mark the year he would have turned 60, the city has organized a series of cultural tributes.

A free thematic walking tour titled ‘Um passo à frente e você não está mais no mesmo lugar’ (One step forward and you are no longer in the same place) allows participants to explore locations significant to the artist's history. The route includes landmarks such as Praça do Arsenal, Praça do Marco Zero, the São José Market, and the Pátio de São Pedro, highlighting the connections between Manguebeat and Afro-Pernambucan culture.

Additionally, a megamural based on an iconic photograph of the musician will be installed on the facade of the Motto by Hilton in the Recife neighborhood. This installation is part of the ‘Recife Cidade da Música’ (Recife Music City) project, which aims to celebrate the region's rich musical heritage.
