Recife hosts Brazil’s largest environmental gincana at Capibaribe River

The NGO Recapibaribe is hosting the 17th edition of ‘Há Gosto Pelo Capibaribe’ from August 29 to 31 in Recife. Recognized as Brazil’s largest environmental gincana, the event focuses on environmental education, the preservation of the Capibaribe River ecosystem, and the integration of local fishing communities.

The program includes the ‘Pescando Consciência Ambiental’ project, featuring an exhibition titled ‘Tubarões sem Mistério: Conhecendo para Conviver’ in partnership with the Aquatic Ecosystem Laboratory (LEAQUA) of UFRPE. Participation in the activities requires a donation of 2 kg of food.

The event culminates on August 31 with a large-scale environmental competition involving approximately 100 fishermen. Participants who collect the most waste are eligible for cash prizes, and all participating fishermen receive a food basket and a stipend of R$ 170.00 to recognize their contribution to river preservation.
