Record Exodus of Senate-Confirmed Officials in Trump Administration

An analysis finds that Senate‑confirmed officials are leaving the Trump administration at a pace unmatched by previous presidents. In the first 18 months of the second Trump term, 27 officials departed, more than double the average of 4.3 departures during the same period for the Bush, Obama and Biden administrations.

Overall, about one in nine Senate‑confirmed officials in Trump’s second term has exited — roughly 11.4 % — with an average tenure of just eight months. For 30 % of those who left, the time waiting for Senate confirmation exceeded the length of their service. The administration has made only 126 nominations this year, the fewest since Ronald Reagan, and the total of 578 nominations is the lowest in recent history.

These figures suggest a significant staffing turnover that could affect the administration’s capacity to implement its agenda.
