Record student enrollment reported at Mexican and Spanish universities

The Faculty of Medicine at the Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro (UAQ) began the 2026‑2 academic period with a historic intake of 180 new medical students, a 150 % increase over its 2004 enrollment levels. Director Rodrigo Miguel González Sánchez said the selection process remains unchanged, emphasizing quality and the need to expand faculty, clinical sites, and preparation for the national residency exam.

In Spain, the University of Salamanca (USAL) has registered 5,451 new‑entry students for the 2026‑2027 academic year, with 74 % securing their first‑choice programmes. The university opened its third enrollment wave, which will run until 27 July, and highlighted Medicine as the most demanded degree. USAL’s strong regional appeal is evident, attracting 41 % of first‑choice applicants from Castilla y León.

Both institutions are coping with markedly higher demand for higher‑education places, reflecting broader trends in university enrollment across Mexico and Spain.
