Record Vehicle Flow at Bulgaria‑Turkey Kapitan Andrevo Border Crossing

In a 24‑hour period, more than 10,000 light vehicles – roughly 10,400 according to border police – passed through the Kapitan Andrevo crossing, setting a new record for the Bulgarian‑Turkish frontier. The surge consists mainly of Turkish guest workers traveling from Western Europe to Turkey for summer holidays, with Bulgarian cars forming a small share.

Border officials have activated the full complement of automated lanes, deployed extra staff from other regional police directorates, and brought in additional shift teams. All technical inspection equipment is in operation, and the average check for a light vehicle with three or four occupants takes between 1½ and 2 minutes. Waiting times at the checkpoint have ranged from 30 to 40 minutes.

Authorities expect the intense outbound traffic toward Turkey to continue until the end of July, after which the flow is projected to reverse in August as workers return through Bulgaria. Police stress that security standards remain unchanged despite the high volume.
