Recovery support organizations expand services for addiction and mental health
Various nonprofit organizations are expanding their efforts to support individuals navigating recovery from addiction, mental health challenges, and trauma.
In Canada, the group Empower 2 Recover has held more than 40 events since its establishment in 2022. Founder Jay Barnard noted a massive demand for support, stating that the organization has expanded its scope beyond substance use disorder to include assistance for those dealing with PTSD, anxiety, depression, cancer, and sex trafficking. The community of Fort Frances recently recognized the group with a proclamation and flag raising.
In the United States, The Foundry House provides a structured eight-month program for men transitioning out of incarceration or rehabilitation facilities. Co-founded by Brian King, the Christian-based nonprofit focuses on spiritual, emotional, social, and vocational rehabilitation. The program offers residents medical treatment, transportation, and job placement assistance to help them achieve long-term self-sufficiency and community reintegration.
