Recreo to inaugurate new penitentiary unit on September 3

The new Penitentiary Unit No. 9 in Recreo, Santa Fe, is scheduled to be inaugurated on September 3 at 9:00 a.m. The facility has a capacity of 891 inmates and is a key component of Governor Maximiliano Pullaro’s security plan, which focuses on prevention, investigation, and strengthening prison infrastructure.

The opening will allow for the progressive transfer of detainees currently held in police stations across the province. Officials aim to reduce the number of inmates in police stations by approximately 80%. Transfers will be organized by region and gender, with priority given to jurisdictions with high inmate volumes, such as Rosario and Rafaela, as well as the Santa Fe and Gran Santa Fe areas.
