RECRIT-CV project aims to recycle lithium batteries and electronic waste

Four Valencian technological centers—ITE, AIDIMME, AIMPLAS, and ITC—have launched the RECRIT-CV research project. The initiative focuses on transforming end-of-life lithium-ion batteries and electronic waste into new industrial raw materials.

The project aims to develop advanced technologies to sustainably recover critical metals, including lithium, nickel, manganese, cobalt, and copper, from batteries and printed circuit boards. These recovered materials are intended for reintroduction into production chains to manufacture new batteries, electronic components, or ceramic pigments.

RECRIT-CV aligns with European Union regulations (EU 2023/1542 and EU 2024/1252) designed to ensure a secure and sustainable supply of critical raw materials. The initiative seeks to reduce the European Union's dependence on third-country imports by increasing recycling rates and the content of recycled materials in new batteries.
