Recruiter sparks debate over Gen Z bringing iced coffee to job interviews

A viral social media debate has emerged regarding whether job candidates should bring iced coffee or lattes to interviews. The discussion was sparked by TikTok video from recruiter Caitlin Wehniainen, president of On Cue Hire, who noted a trend among Gen Z applicants arriving at interviews with cold beverages in hand.

Wehniainen, who has 16 years of experience recruiting for Fortune 500 companies, argued that carrying such a drink can appear unprofessional. She stated that it may give the impression that the interview is merely “just a stop on your list of errands for the day,” suggesting a lack of seriousness or commitment to the role.

The debate has divided internet users. Many recruiters and etiquette experts agree, suggesting that beverages can be distracting or signal an overly casual attitude. Conversely, many Gen Z commenters defend the practice, arguing that a drink does not reflect professional competence and that interviews are simply part of a standard daily routine.
