Recycling guidelines for napkins and absorbent paper

Guidelines from Comieco and the Consorzio Italiano Compostatori clarify how to correctly sort paper products like napkins, tissues, and absorbent paper to avoid recycling errors.

White napkins soiled with food residues, such as sauce or oil, should be disposed of in the organic waste (umido) bin. However, napkins used with cleaning detergents must be placed in the unsorted waste bin. Clean paper products that are not contaminated by food should be recycled with paper. The correct disposal method depends on the product's composition, treatments, and whether it carries a compostability certification.
