Recz: Fire caused by six-year-old leads to child hospitalization

A fire broke out in a residential building in Recz, West Pomeranian Voivodeship, after a six-year-old boy used a lighter to set his toys on fire. The blaze spread quickly, requiring the intervention of four fire brigade units.

Passersby evacuated the children from the smoke-filled building before firefighters arrived. Two children, the six-year-old and his four-year-old sibling, were transported to the hospital for observation. Other residents of the building were also evacuated during the rescue operation.

Police from Choszczno investigated the mother, who was supervising the children at the time of the incident. While tests confirmed she was sober, they also revealed the presence of intoxicants in her system, which may have impaired her ability to provide adequate supervision.
