Red Arrows cancel UK air shows after being stranded in Canada

The RAF Red Arrows aerobatic team has been forced to withdraw from several scheduled UK appearances after being stranded in North America due to adverse weather conditions. The team's return journey from a tour of the United States has been delayed by a "prolonged period of poor weather in the north-eastern regions of Canada."

Because the team's Hawk aircraft are single-engine and lack air-to-air refueling capabilities, the Atlantic crossing must be completed in multiple stages with specific RAF support and search-and-rescue aircraft. The Royal Air Force (RAF) expects the multi-leg journey back to the United Kingdom to resume late next week when weather conditions improve.

As a result of the delay, the Red Arrows will miss the following events: - Airbourne: Eastbourne International Airshow (August 13–16) - Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo (ongoing until August 29) - Lyme Regis RNLI Lifeboat Week (August 15–22)

While the Red Arrows are unable to perform, other RAF assets, such as the Typhoon Display Team and the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, will still participate in the scheduled events.
