Red Bull driver prospects uncertain despite Lawson's substitute performances
The future of Red Bull’s driver lineup remains a subject of debate following Liam Lawson’s recent substitute performances. Lawson stepped in for the injured Isack Hadjar during the races at Zandvoort, Monza, and Madrid, securing 14 points with finishes of sixth, fourteenth, and seventh.
Despite these solid results, former world champion Nico Rosberg suggests that Lawson may not be viewed as a long-term option for the senior Red Bull team. Similarly, former Red Bull driver Robert Doornbos indicated that Isack Hadjar remains the primary choice for the team, noting that Hadjar’s performance in the first half of the season was convincing.
Racing Bulls boss Laurent Mekies praised Lawson’s adaptability and focus, suggesting his recent form strengthens his position within the Red Bull family, likely for a continued role at Racing Bulls in 2027. Meanwhile, speculation regarding Nikola Tsolov suggests he may take on a reserve role combined with Super Formula racing as the team’s driver structure for 2027 begins to settle.
