Red Bull faces decision over Lawson and Tsolov for 2027

Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko has publicly advocated for Nikola Tsolov to secure a seat at Racing Bulls for the 2027 season, potentially at the expense of Liam Lawson. Speaking in Austin, Marko emphasized the importance of the Red Bull Junior Team philosophy, which prioritizes developing internal talent over hiring established drivers.

Lawson has demonstrated significant growth and consistency, contributing to Racing Bulls' current fifth-place position in the constructors' championship. His performance has been bolstered by successful stints replacing Isack Hadjar, where he secured sixth and seventh-place finishes. However, Lawson currently lacks contractual guarantees for 2027.

In contrast, Tsolov is viewed as a rising star within the Red Bull junior program, currently holding second place in the Formula 2 standings. The situation presents a strategic dilemma for the organization: whether to prioritize the immediate competitive stability provided by Lawson or adhere to the legacy of founder Dietrich Mateschitz by promoting young prospects like Tsolov.
