Red Bull Powertrains rejects supplying engines to external teams

Red Bull Racing team principal Laurent Mekies has stated that Red Bull Ford Powertrains has no current plans to supply engines to an external Formula 1 team. While there has been media speculation regarding a potential partnership with Aston Martin—particularly if Honda were to exit the sport—Mekies confirmed that the company is not currently in serious discussions with other teams.

The decision to remain a closed supplier is driven by the need to focus resources on developing its own power unit and supporting its two existing teams, Red Bull Racing and Racing Bulls. Mekies noted that while the engine's performance has attracted interest from various teams, the priority remains closing the performance gap to competitors like Mercedes.

Separately, Honda marked its 500th Formula 1 race at the United States Grand Prix. Despite recent challenges with performance, the Japanese manufacturer remains one of the most successful power unit providers in the sport's history, trailing only Ferrari, Mercedes, Ford-Cosworth, and Renault in total victories.
