Red Bull Racing confirms Tom McCullough as future head of racing
Red Bull Racing has announced that Tom McCullough, a long-time engineer from Aston Martin, will join the team at the start of the 2027 season. McCullough will take over the role of head of racing, succeeding Gianpiero Lambiase. Lambiase, who currently serves as both a race engineer for Max Verstappen and head of racing, is scheduled to join McLaren by 2028.
To further stabilize the technical structure, Red Bull has also secured Tom Hart to take over as Verstappen’s race engineer starting in 2027. This follows a period of significant personnel changes within the team.
Regarding technical development, Max Verstappen has expressed concerns that the team’s aging wind tunnel facility is limiting car performance. He noted that the current infrastructure, which he joked “comes from World War II,” could impact the development of the 2026 and 2027 cars. Red Bull plans to replace the facility with a modern wind tunnel expected to be operational by the beginning of the 2027 season.
Additionally, Max Verstappen has extended his contract with Oracle Red Bull Racing through 2030. Helmut Marko noted that the timing of this extension aligns with the anticipated introduction of new engine regulations in 2030, providing the team with long-term stability.
