Red Bull Racing utilizes AI for F1 race strategy

Red Bull Racing has integrated an autonomous artificial intelligence strategy agent, developed in partnership with Oracle, to assist in real-time decision-making during Formula 1 Grand Prix events. Originally designed as a search tool to help engineers interpret complex regulations and past steward decisions, the system has evolved into a sophisticated tool capable of processing massive datasets to provide tactical recommendations to the pit wall.

Jack Harington, Red Bull’s Head of Technical and Performance Partnerships, noted that the AI agent can effectively “take decisions for us” during high-pressure racing scenarios. A notable instance occurred during the 2025 Italian Grand Prix at Monza. When Max Verstappen went wide at the first chicane while battling Lando Norris, the AI recommended that the team instruct Verstappen to yield the position to avoid a potential penalty. Although the recommendation initially conflicted with the pit wall’s immediate perception, the team followed the AI’s guidance, successfully preventing a penalty.

The partnership between Red Bull and Oracle has been extended for several years, with future collaboration set to include the development of Red Bull Ford Powertrains' new hybrid power units in 2026.
