Red Bull Salzburg played a closed‑door preparatory fixture against German 2. Bundesliga side Energie Cottbus in Waidring, Austria, and won 5‑0. Captain Nikolas Veratschnig opened scoring with a direct free‑kick in the 44th minute. In the second half Gaoussou Diakite added a second, while Yorbe Vertessen, a former Union Berlin striker, scored twice (75' and 78'), and Enrique Aguilar capped the win in the 81st minute.

Salzburg used the match to build confidence ahead of the upcoming ÖFB‑Cup first round, while Cottbus coach Claus‑Dieter Wollitz said his side showed a good first‑half intensity despite the heavy defeat.
