Red Cross volunteer allegedly murdered by ex-boyfriend in Spain
Paula Solanas de Miguel, a 27-year-old Red Cross volunteer, was allegedly murdered by her former boyfriend, 39-year-old Nabil Khalissi, in Santander, Spain. Police responded to the scene after Khalissi reportedly called them and confessed to the killing.
Solanas de Miguel had volunteered with the Red Cross for over three years, focusing on projects to educate children about equality and combating gender-based violence. Her colleagues described her as an active volunteer who led workshops at summer schools.
During court proceedings, Solanas de Miguel's parents testified that the relationship, which lasted approximately four years and produced a child, was marked by Khalissi being "very controlling and possessive." They noted that she seemed to be reclaiming her personal identity and returning to her studies following their breakup. Khalissi appeared in court but invoked his right to remain silent.
