Red Deer community holds walk to raise awareness for domestic violence

Approximately 100 participants took part in The Outreach Centre’s annual ‘Walk A Mile in Her Shoes’ event in downtown Red Deer on September 11. The initiative challenged men to walk a mile in high heels to raise funds and awareness for the prevention of gender-based and domestic violence.

Laura Cowell, executive director of The Outreach Centre, emphasized the importance of maintaining dialogue regarding family and gender-based violence within the community. She noted that fundraising events are critical to the organization's operations due to uncertainties regarding funding sources.

The Outreach Centre is also preparing to relocate from Taylor Drive to the Centre for Social Impact in downtown Red Deer. This move aims to consolidate multiple services under one roof, providing families and individuals with easier access to support while reducing overhead costs for nonprofit organizations.
