Red Deer RCMP warn of counterfeit cash circulation
The Red Deer RCMP has issued a warning regarding counterfeit bills circulating in Red Deer and the surrounding areas. Over the last two weeks, police have received multiple reports of suspected counterfeit currency being used for purchases.
Authorities noted that the fake bills are difficult to detect. Businesses are advised to carefully inspect all denominations, particularly higher-value notes, and verify that every bill has a unique serial number. Police recommend that individuals familiarize themselves with Canadian banknote security features, such as holographic elements, transparent windows, and raised ink.
Law enforcement advises that anyone encountering suspect currency should refuse the transaction and contact the police rather than putting themselves at risk. If safe to do so, individuals should note descriptions of the person involved and preserve video surveillance.
