Red Deer to host inaugural Flyathon fundraiser

Red Deer will host its inaugural Flyathon on September 12, a fundraiser organized by Freshwater Conservation Canada to support freshwater ecosystem projects. The event combines trail running, fishing, and craft beer.

The five-kilometre route begins at Capstone’s Canada 150 Square and concludes at Troubled Monk Brewery. Participants will run along river trails toward Kiwanis Picnic Park, with the option to stop and fish along the route. To be eligible for prizes, runners are encouraged to record the species and size of their catches. Organizers will verify that all participants hold valid fishing licences.

Registration costs $100, and participants are required to fundraise a minimum of $250. The event includes prizes for top fundraisers, course finishers, and specific fishing achievements. Participants receive a race T-shirt, bib, food, a $50 tax receipt, and a drink ticket for Troubled Monk Brewery.
