Red Eléctrica de España prohibits power plant maintenance for one year

Red Eléctrica de España (REE) has implemented an unprecedented restriction, prohibiting combined cycle, nuclear, and pumped-storage hydroelectric plants from pausing operations for maintenance for the next twelve months.

This decision follows a high number of unplanned shutdowns by combined cycle plants. REE stated that these maintenance requests have been postponed to ensure grid stability. The move has raised concerns within the industrial sector regarding potential electricity supply risks and system stress.
