The National Weather Service issued a Red Flag Warning for Lubbock, West Texas, citing strong winds, low humidity and extremely dry vegetation that could allow a tiny spark—such as a discarded cigarette butt—to ignite a fast‑moving wildfire. Residents were urged to avoid outdoor burning, keep cars away from tall grass, and call 911 if they see smoke.

A separate Red Flag Warning and Air Quality Alert were released for southeast Wyoming, covering Cheyenne and Laramie. Wind gusts of 25‑40 mph are expected to drive rapid fire spread, while smoke will degrade air quality through the weekend. People with respiratory sensitivities were advised to limit outdoor exposure.
