Red Lions draw 1-1 with Australia in Hockey World Cup
The Belgian national field hockey team, the Red Lions, drew 1-1 against Australia in their opening match of the second phase of the Hockey World Cup in Wavre. Australia took an early lead in the 24th minute through Tom Craig, but Belgium equalized in the 38th minute via a penalty corner scored by Tom Boon.
Despite showing increased dominance after the halftime break, the Red Lions were unable to secure a victory. This result leaves Belgium at the bottom of Group F with one point, trailing Australia (4 points), Spain (3 points), and Germany (3 points). To advance to the semifinals, Shane McLeod’s squad must finish in the top two of their group. Belgium is scheduled to face Spain this Sunday at the Belfius Hockey Arena.
