Red panda Flynn moves from Zoo Neuwied to Scotland

Flynn, a male red panda born at Zoo Neuwied, has been relocated to the Highland Wildlife Park of the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS). The move is part of a coordinated European breeding program aimed at preserving the genetic diversity of the species.

Red pandas are classified as endangered by the IUCN due to habitat loss from deforestation, road construction, and poaching. As a member of the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA), Zoo Neuwied participates in international conservation efforts and breeding registries to manage populations in human care.

The transport of Flynn to Scotland was notable for being conducted via airplane using a specially constructed transport crate. The journey was documented by Hessischer Rundfunk for the series ‘Mittendrin - Flughafen Frankfurt’, which is scheduled to broadcast later this year.
