Red Rock Canyon State Park offers colorful landscapes in California

Red Rock Canyon State Park, located in Kern County at the western edge of the Mojave Desert, is a notable destination within California’s extensive state park system. Spanning over 27,000 acres, the park is characterized by its vibrant red sandstone cliffs, striped buttes, and seasonal wildflower displays in the spring.

Originally the home of the Kawaiisu people, the area became a state park in 1968. The distinct geological formations served as landmarks for mule wagons in the 1870s. Due to its proximity to Los Angeles, it is a popular location for weekend trips and has served as a filming site for over 150 productions, including ‘Jurassic Park’.
