Red Star Belgrade's Rajko Mitić stadium to undergo major reconstruction and mixed‑use development
Belgrade plans a comprehensive reconstruction of the Rajko Mitić stadium, home of Red Star football club, to meet FIFA and UEFA standards. The upgraded arena will have a reduced capacity of about 45,000 seats and new facilities such as VAR rooms, a medical block, a museum, and a sports school.
The redevelopment covers roughly 24.3 ha and includes a large urban‑planning transformation of the surrounding block. Around 246,000 m² of built‑up area will be created, allowing residential units for roughly 2,900–3,000 people, commercial offices, retail space, hotels and a conference centre. The project is expected to generate about 410 new jobs and raise stadium staff from the current 250 to roughly 850.
Construction is slated to start next year, with the existing stadium modernised while retaining its location. The plan also envisions underground parking, expanded pedestrian and bicycle routes, and additional green spaces.
