Red Star Museum opens in Sfântu Gheorghe with communism and telephony exhibits

The Red Star Museum (Muzeul Steaua Roșie) in Sfântu Gheorghe, Romania, is opening its doors to the public. Located in a former tobacco warehouse and funded through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), the nearly 3,000-square-meter facility focuses on the history of the communist dictatorship in Romania, with specific emphasis on Transylvania and the Covasna region.

The museum features three main exhibition areas: ‘Red Sunrise,’ covering the aftermath of World War II and political persecutions; ‘The Red Flag,’ addressing the consolidation of communist power; and ‘The Red Star,’ detailing daily life during the Ceaușescu era, the economy of shortages, and the regime's fall in 1989. The museum will host three days of free entry from October 23–25.

In conjunction with the museum's launch, a specialized telephony exhibition titled ‘Alo? HALLO! - The technical and cultural history of telephony’ will open on October 22. This exhibit features over 150 objects, including vintage crank telephones, military devices, and a Morse telegraph, showcasing the evolution of communication technology.
