Red-tailed hawk released into British Columbia skies after rehabilitation

A red-tailed hawk, nicknamed ‘Alan’, has been released back into the wild in British Columbia after undergoing rehabilitation. Shauna Frankelson discovered the bird at the start of 2026 near the Langley-Surrey border in Brookswood. At the time, the hawk was soaking wet and suffering from a broken wing, likely caused by a vehicle collision.

Frankelson contacted OWL, an organization that cares for sick and injured birds, to provide medical assistance. The organization reported taking in approximately 55 animals from the Langley area annually and over 670 throughout British Columbia last year. Following successful treatment, the hawk was released in late August in the same area where it was originally found.
