Reda Aquapark partnership suspended by Mayor Richert after chemical leak kills sharks

On July 26, a technical error at Aquapark Reda caused a technician to add sulfuric acid to a tank of sodium hypochlorite, releasing poisonous chlorine gas. The incident forced the evacuation of more than 400 visitors and staff; one technician was hospitalized with chemical poisoning, while none of the people were injured.

The chemical reaction killed several fish in the park’s aquarium, including the attraction sharks. In response, Reda’s mayor, Mateusz Richert, announced the suspension of the city’s cooperation with the privately run Aquapark pending a full safety audit and expert review. The city has demanded detailed technical reports and assurances of future safety before any partnership can be restored.
