Al-Nassr faces debt crisis amid potential sale to RedBird Capital
Al-Nassr, the Saudi Pro League club featuring Cristiano Ronaldo, is facing a significant financial crisis with debts reported to be around 800 million riyals (approximately $213 million or €200 million). The financial imbalance, attributed to heavy spending on player transfers in recent seasons, has prompted intervention from Saudi football supervisory bodies.
To prepare for a potential sale, the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) is reportedly working to stabilize the club's finances through new sponsorship agreements with companies within its investment portfolio. Reports indicate that RedBird Capital Partners, the American investment firm that owns AC Milan, is in preliminary discussions to acquire a 70% majority stake in the club for an estimated $267 million.
Under the proposed ownership structure, Cristiano Ronaldo could potentially acquire a 20% stake in the club, transitioning from a player to a co-owner. While various media outlets have reported on these negotiations, some club representatives have publicly denied that Ronaldo is currently set to become a shareholder. The deal remains in the early stages of negotiation with no final agreement reached.
