A marketing firm named RedRover openly advertises AI agents that mass‑publish content across Reddit and blogs to sway Google and ChatGPT rankings. The accounts involved are crafted to resemble genuine users, with realistic posting histories and timed brand mentions, making detection reliant on pattern recognition rather than fully automated tools. Reddit says its safety team employs automated systems, but moderators note the growing sophistication of the scheme.

In 2024 Reddit updated its robots.txt to block unauthorized AI scrapers and has entered licensing deals with AI companies, including OpenAI, allowing its data to be used for training commercial models.
