Reddit joins S&P 500 index
Reddit has been added to the S&P 500 index, replacing AvalonBay Communities. The inclusion, effective August 18, follows a period of significant financial growth and strategic shifts toward AI integration.
In the second quarter, Reddit reported a 61% year-over-year increase in sales, reaching approximately $805 million, with diluted earnings per share of $1.25. This growth is partly attributed to data licensing agreements, such as its partnership with OpenAI, which allow tech companies to use Reddit's vast user-generated content to train AI models.
While the company's stock had faced a decline of 31.2% earlier in the year due to concerns regarding search traffic, the announcement of its S&P 500 inclusion led to a surge in share price. The index membership requires the company to maintain US domicile, sufficient trading volume, and sustained profitability.
