Rede Expressos connects Badajoz to Lisbon via Alentejo

Rede Expressos is integrating the Spanish city of Badajoz into its national bus network, strengthening connections between the Alentejo region and Spain. Starting September 11, two daily connections will operate in each direction between Badajoz and Lisbon.

The route will follow the Elvas-Lisbon path, with stops in Borba, Estremoz, Évora, and Montemor-o-Novo. This expansion aims to support increasing cross-border mobility driven by professional, economic, social, and tourism activities. Currently, movement between the two regions is heavily reliant on individual vehicles; data indicates approximately 8,600 vehicles daily are associated with cross-border travel in Badajoz.

The new service also supports labor mobility initiatives, such as the EURES Transfronteiriço Extremadura-Alentejo project, which assists workers living on one side of the border and working on the other. The integration seeks to reduce automobile dependency and facilitate easier access to the broader Portuguese national network for Spanish passengers.
