Rede Globo seeks to lift actor Ewerton de Castro's tax secrecy to collect debt

Rede Globo has requested a court order to lift the tax secrecy of 80-year-old actor Ewerton de Castro to identify assets to settle a debt estimated at R$ 407,000. The amount includes interest, monetary correction, and legal fees.

The dispute stems from a 2002 incident when Castro left the filming of the miniseries ‘O Quinto dos Infernos’. The actor argued that his role was reduced to that of an extra, which he felt was disrespectful to his 34-year career. Globo maintained that the actor was hired for a supporting role and that his sudden departure forced script changes and production losses.

Following a 2023 ruling, Castro was ordered to pay a contractual fine. Previous attempts to seize assets from the actor and his company, Ewerton de Castro Produções Artísticas Ltda, proved insufficient. After a period of suspension in 2024 due to a lack of seizable assets, Globo has resumed collection efforts in 2025, seeking to access credits and receivables.
