Rede Mater Dei performs pioneering robotic surgery in Minas Gerais

Rede Mater Dei de Saúde has performed a pioneering robotic surgery in Minas Gerais, involving real-time clinical decision-making from specialists across three different Brazilian states. The procedure, a robotic thymectomy, was conducted on a nine-year-old patient diagnosed with myasthenia gravis.

Using the da Vinci robotic system, the surgical team integrated telepresence to allow specialists from Rio de Janeiro and Paraná to participate actively in the operation. Unlike traditional second opinions provided before or after a procedure, these remote experts discussed and validated clinical decisions in real time alongside the local surgical team. The operation was led by thoracic surgeon Dr. Daniel Bonomi, supported by pediatric surgeon Dr. Marco Antônio Gomes and Dr. Andrey Pimenta, with remote assistance from Dr. Paulo Boscardim and Dr. Márcio Oliveira Lucas.
