Redeemed Christian Church of God begins repatriation of 500 Nigerians from South Africa

The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has launched a humanitarian initiative to repatriate 500 Nigerians from South Africa. The first batch of 100 returnees arrived at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on Thursday night.

The air transportation from Johannesburg to Lagos is being funded by the RCCG following an appeal from the Nigerian diplomatic mission in South Africa. Pastor Belemina Obunge, Chairman of the RCCG Task Force for the Reception of Nigerian Returnees, stated that the funding was approved by General Overseer Pastor Enoch Adeboye on humanitarian grounds.

Returnees were profiled and documented by the Nigerian High Commission in South Africa and South African Home Affairs authorities. Obunge emphasized that the selection was not based on religious membership, noting that Nigerians of various faiths are included in the program.

Upon arrival, officials from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons began profiling the returnees. Following this process, they will be transported to their respective state capitals.
