Redeemed Christian Church of God donates $265,854 for Nigerian evacuations

The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), led by Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, has donated $265,854 to assist the Nigerian government in evacuating distressed citizens from South Africa. The funds are designated to purchase 500 one-way air tickets for Nigerians seeking to return home following renewed waves of xenophobic and Afrophobic attacks in the country.

The Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs commended the donation, describing it as a “significant demonstration of RCCG’s compassion, solidarity and genuine commitment to providing succour to distressed and stranded Nigerians.” The ministry noted that the gesture highlights the potential for collaboration between faith-based organizations and public institutions to address humanitarian crises.

Since the evacuation process began on June 10, 2026, a total of 1,640 Nigerian nationals have been returned to Nigeria. Of these, the Federal Government fully sponsored 1,385 individuals, while 255 were evacuated through philanthropic donations. An additional 202 Nigerians are currently awaiting final screening by South Africa’s Department of Home Affairs before they can be repatriated.
