Redhill–Tonbridge railway line to close for urgent repairs

The Redhill–Tonbridge railway line will close from 28 October to 1 November to facilitate urgent ground-stabilization work near Godstone. Network Rail engineers discovered movement beneath the ballast and have implemented temporary speed restrictions to ensure safety.

To stabilize the 126-metre embankment, crews will install 208 steel sheet piles, each approximately 10 metres long, to create a continuous retaining wall. This work is intended to lock the soil mass, reduce lateral movement, and allow for the restoration of drainage and embankment profiles. The five-day closure allows teams to work continuously to accelerate the project and prevent future disruptions.

During the closure, replacement bus services will operate between Redhill and Tonbridge, calling at all stations. Additional bus services will also serve Edenbridge Town to facilitate connections with the Uckfield line.
