Redmond O’Neal appears in court on attempted murder charges

Redmond O’Neal, the 41-year-old son of Farrah Fawcett and Ryan O’Neal, appeared in a Los Angeles court following an arraignment on attempted murder and assault charges. O’Neal has been in custody since May 2018, following allegations of a crime spree that included attacking several individuals and attempting to rob a convenience store.

During a recent hearing, O’Neal confirmed to a judge that he understood his arraignment would be continued until October 29. He remains incarcerated at Patton State Hospital without bail. His legal proceedings have previously been delayed due to questions regarding his mental competency, though he was found competent to proceed last year.

O’Neal’s defense attorney, Dana Cole, stated that O’Neal is participating in life skills classes and that his medication is effective. Additionally, O’Neal’s godmother, Mela Murphy, expressed hope for his future, noting that he is receiving support at the hospital where he is held.

During his court appearance, O’Neal was observed with new tattoos, including what appeared to be lightning-bolt-style “SS” symbols on his neck. His attorney noted that the tattoos were not new and suggested they were acquired years ago during a period of serious mental illness, asserting that O’Neal does not hold supremacist views.
