Ree Drummond Shares Summer Food Tips on Watermelon Storage and Sweet Tea

Ree Drummond explains that a whole watermelon can last seven to ten days at room temperature, two to three weeks in a cool, dark pantry or basement, and up to three weeks in the refrigerator, though flavor may lessen when chilled. Once cut, watermelon should be kept in an airtight container in the fridge for three to five days; pieces can also be frozen in a freezer‑safe bag for three to six months.

For bottled sweet tea, Drummond recommends first tasting the tea to gauge sweetness. If it’s too sweet, dilute with water; if the flavor is flat, steep a black tea bag in hot water, let it cool, and mix it in. Adding lemon juice, lemon slices, fresh fruit such as watermelon or berries, or a splash of vanilla or milk can further improve the taste and give it a homemade feel.
