Reece James undergoes knee surgery, facing lengthy Chelsea absence

Chelsea captain Reece James has undergone successful minor knee surgery following an injury sustained during training. The 26-year-old defender was absent from Chelsea’s recent 5-1 victory over Bournemouth while undergoing medical assessments.

While the club has not provided an official timeline for his return, media reports suggest James could be sidelined for approximately three months, potentially missing significant Premier League fixtures through the Christmas period. He has already begun his rehabilitation process at Cobham.

Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso stated that the club does not intend to make emergency signings in the January transfer window to cover the vacancy, expressing confidence in the existing squad. Alonso noted that players such as Moises Caicedo and Levi Colwill are prepared to provide leadership in James’ absence.
