Reempresa program facilitates business succession in Catalonia

The Reempresa program is facilitating the transfer of small and medium-sized businesses across Catalonia to prevent closures due to retirement and preserve local employment. Managed by municipal entities, the service provides professional guidance, mediation, and advisory services to help entrepreneurs take over established businesses rather than starting from scratch.

In Mollet del Vallès, the program managed by the Empresa Municipal per a la Formació i l’Ocupació (EMFO) has enabled the continuity of 25 companies between 2020 and 2025, with seven successful cases already recorded in 2026. One notable example involves Nerea Barrera, a 23-year-old photographer who assumed control of a studio with over 30 years of history following the previous owner's retirement.

In the Alt Penedès region, the Vilafranca del Penedès City Council offers the only Reempresa service in the area. The program aims to mitigate the lack of generational relief in local commerce, industry, and services by leveraging existing client bases, facilities, and brand recognition. The service offers free and confidential consulting to guide parties from initial meetings through to the final sale contract.
